Megan is a visual artist who creates encaustic and assemblage works that tell stories that are at once autobiographical and universal.

Megan is an encaustic artist. Encaustic is an ancient, wax-based painting medium. She is drawn to the rich colors and textures that are unique to encaustic and enjoys the process of layering and blending wax to create complex and layered images.

Her work combines encaustic with assemblage, a form of art that combines found objects, to create artworks that tell stories. She is drawn to the unique histories and personalities of found objects and enjoys the challenge of finding ways to combine them in unexpected and meaningful ways. She believes that art can help us to connect with the past and to learn from the experiences of others.

Inspired by her desire to lower her environmental footprint and the tradition of self-taught artists, Megan’s practice includes creative reuse. Her main substrate is cardboard which is infinitely available in the age of online shopping and keeps it out of the landfills. She also uses discarded textiles, found wood, metal, and other recycled materials.

Megan lives in Washington, DC with her husband, her youngest daughter, and her studio hound, Layla.
